IE6 won't access web? How to replace IE?

IE6 won't access the web. I think I have tried everything
I know (somewhat limited knowlege). I want to replace the
IE on the system with an original version. XP won't let me
because it says that there is a newer version on the
system. How do I do this?

I am running XP, currently updated and IE6. I have the IE
Service Pack 1 CD. Note: I also run AOL 9.0 as my
internet provider and use Netscape 7.1.
