I have been seeing more of this problem with our
customers. I have a Windows XP Home machine in now with
this problem. I have ran several spyware apps to remove
any possible highjackers including CWShredder. CWShredder
did remove one highjacker. I have also ran the lspfix
tool and it found zero problems. Also I have reinstalled
IE6 to make sure there were no corrupted or missing
files. I also reset all IE settings to default. I have
deleted all cookies and Temporary Internet Files. Finally
I reinstalled Service Pack 1a. Still it will not open any
webpage. It can ping anything over the net without
trouble. Please advise.

Jason,
When you can ping but not access, this usually indicates a corrupt cache
folder(s).

How To: Delete the Internet Explorer Temporary Internet Files

Go to: http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm#HijackThis!
Download "Hijack This!" [freeware]

Unzip, double-click "HijackThis.exe" and Press "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log"
button.
Click: "Save Log" (generates: "hijackthis.log")

Next, go to the below location:

Sign in, go to the "Spyware and Hijackware Removal" section.
Press "New Topic", copy and paste hijackthis.log into your new message.

Post back with the URL where you posted if you want help with your log.

I have logged in as Administrator and removed the
Temporary Internet Files ,History and index.dat files.
This did not solve the issue so I downloaded the HiJack
This! tool and post the log file in the forum you
suggested. I really appreciate the time and effort you
placed in trying to help. Wish me luck and thank you
again.

Jason,
I see your problem has been identified and a solution provided.
The only additional suggestion I would have is to check out:

[C:\WINDOWS\System32\ofps.exe]

Do you know what that is?
Locate, right-click and select: Properties | Version
See if you can determine the owner, etc.

From what I have found it's related to Nortons' NPROTECT.
It doesn't show as infected with a single scan of Norton,
but some virus' once the computer is infected can
manipulate the Antivirus apps. I have done all the
suggestions and still, I cannot pull up a webpage, only
ping. My time is running out and I am afraid I may have
to format and reload for times sake.
