IE6 SP2 - Only Opens home page.

Hi everyone, sorry if this has been asked before, I have tried to search.

I have IE6 with SP2 installed and there is a issue with loading web pages
that the address of has been entered in the address bar. IE will quite
happily open my homepage, and any links I've clicked on. However if a popup
occurs, or I enter a address in the address bar, then it opens in another
browser. The issue also exists if I click in my favourites for a certain
site. I also have Opera(9) and Firefox(2) installed, so every new address
that is loaded comes up in Opera, even if I block acces to Opera, and set IE
as the default.
However, if I open my computer(or another folder with explorer) and type an
address in the address bar, it will load fine, until a popup occurs. I've
had this problem before with IE7 and I fixed it by uninstalling it.
Appart from using XP SP2 my problem is identical to one listed here:
http://www.daniweb.com/techtalkforums/thread1888.html
It suggests doing a repair, but the Ms knowlagebase doesn't explain itself
very well when it comes to repairing SP2 installs.

Would it be best to uninstall SP2, then let microsoft updates install SP2?
Or should I find the network install and go from there?
Or is it a problem with the registry that can be fixed?

Hi,
First, is IE6 the default browser? Check that at Control Panel> Add or
remove programs> Set program access and defaults.

Next, do you have this registry key?
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\CLSID\{c90250f3-4d7d-4991-9b69-a5c5bc1c2ae6}
Reference: http://blogs.msdn.com/ie/archive/2005/12/16/504864.aspx
You should not have this key with IE6.
Installing/uninstalling IE7 may have left the key behind.

If you find that key in your registry, Export it (just in case.) Delete it.
Restart.

If you're not familiar with regedit, please post back or seek help.

Hope this helps,
Don

Removing the registry key seemed to return IE6 to it's former self.

Thanks Don.
