IE6 is frequently shutting down with no warning; no error message; nothing.
All open windows close. Anybody experiencing this or know why it is
happening. This has been going on for about three weeks now.

Sounds malware related to me, Richard.

"Check for Spyware" suggestions:
First, install the programs and then update them immediately, so that they
have the current versions, and definitions. Read the Help Files and
Tutorials. Run them one at a time. With Ad-Aware you may have it generally
clean whatever it finds. The same applies for CWShredder. Spybot S&D
requires special attention (listed below), as does HijackThis (Only more so.
Details listed below) The programs are listed in order of their general
strength, safety, and purpose. It is perhaps best to install and run these
in this order of appearance. FYI: all programs listed here are freeware, but
if you're pleased with how they work, donations to the respective Authors
are cheerfully accepted. Also, I use every single one I've submitted to you,
so there's no hearsay about on their efficacy.

This item below is designed to *prevent* installation of malware and the
like by comparing known CLSID's of these "bad guys" with what is in its
definitions. It doesn't remove anything, nor will it fix anything that is
already in your PC. Rather, it will prevent installation or re-installation
of the item once
it has been removed either manually, or by the use of another program which
will perform the duty of removing the spyware.

If you use Spybot S & D, be sure to clean *ONLY* the items displayed in
*RED*. DO NOT clean any items displayed in Black or Green at this time.

Lastly there is HijackThis. Hijack this is a very powerful, last resort type
of program which is generally best used in conjunction with help from those
who deal with the findings of the log created by the HijackThis scan. It
does nothing in the scan itself; it merely says what is in and running on
your PC. The items must be checked-marked to be "cleaned". Therein is the
issue; you must know *exactly* what you are checking-off before you proceed.
If you don't, you can quite possibly disable many useful and vital functions
of your PC. Remember; read the Tutorials, and seek help at SpywareInfo
Forums, Net-Integration, or TomCoyote forums for safety's sake.

Also........

Download, install and run the programs below to ensure there are no
parasites, spyware, adware or malware on your system contributing to the
problem. Be sure to UPDATE the SpyBot and AdAware programs before running
them to be sure they have the latest definitions. Run them both, as they
look for different warez, thus, what one does not find, the other may.

Was it the sub-conscious clue of "all windows close" which made you think of
the summertime and heat issue which can affect the processor, etc. and then
"click-lightbulb", you dug up that right handy answer/link? <VBG>

Well...I suspect the OP will let us know if my guess was right or not. <g>
But, Siberia is *much* too cold for a California Girl. Minus 14 degrees F is
about as cold as I care to deal with without my Extracelestial

Just to keep it official and topical, I hope the OP does reply back that it
was temperature related and an ice-pack on the CPU fixed everything.

Minus 14º ? Maybe just about the right temp for a CPU, but then, you're
definitely not one of those. Now, you must be referring to San Francisco
where "the coldest winter... was a summer day in...". Surely I must go to
an Extraterrestrial designer to get one of those fancy Extracelestial
outfits (or should I say in-fits)? It gets a bit chilly in my area of the
galaxy. <bg>

Well... some folks may not realize the CPU temp can get pretty warm, and the
fans may not be able to keep it cool in really warm weather. There are a lot
who keep their machines in the little cubby hole made to hold it in a work
station, which can help hold a lot of heat in the area of the machine,
adding to the heat situation.

Heh...no..the only time I was ever in that cold a conditions was a visit to
some friends who have a cabin in Strawberry Point, in the mts. over Cedar
City, UT, one New Years holiday. The cabin is at the 10,000 ft. mark, and a
sudden heavy snow storm hit. The wood pile and cabin was snowed in, so when
the wood we had went, so did the warmth. There was no elec. or gas at the
cabin, so, for a day and a half we were without and heat. Have you any idea
how many new versions can be added to 99 Bottle of Beer on the Wall?

That can help steam matters up, but still not nearly as hot as some of them
can get... "under the collar". said:

I'm very familiar with that area and most of the Southern half of that
state. It's where I call home. Can get pretty nippy unless one dresses as
you recommended. ;-)
It depends on how many bottles of beer are in the belly, I'd suppose. <g,d,

Yeah....that's true. <g> But, I think furntiure mfg.'s have gotten wise,
most work stations I've seen lately with the cubby holes are open in the

They leave the back open so's you kin reach around and unlatch it after you
lose your key (and forget the password) I wonder how the cabinet would react
to a "brute force" password cracker program.... Might scratch the hardware.
<BG>

Yep... but in the S.E. canyon country corner of the state where it is
generally a bit milder winter-wise. It takes a while to get used to the heat
and the high desert cold though. No wonder the landscape "crumbles".

Place the beer in ice-cube trays first...that'll work. ;-)

Another thing; serious matter though... sorry. You tried the MSKB today?
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?pr=kbinfo

Odd thing is that I just discovered when trying to use it that the four
dropdown boxes are completely void of any choices or contents. You can type
in your search for stuff, but lacking those parameters, the page doesn't
work. What Th'...???!

Oh....I thought that was to make it easier for the thieves to steal it.
That way they don't have to waste time looking for the key to the door,
which are all mass-blanked anyway. Shoooo...I can even use mine on my
clamp-on sidewalk skates. ??

Some beautiful red rocks there though, the drive from Las Vegas is really

Gee, I hadn't thought of that leave the back-door open for ease of theft

skates for a quick-getaway? <lol.>

Yeah... kinda of nice country for those who like it, such as I, and it
appears, you too. Next time you're that way, on a journey to "here", try
getting off I-15 ~ 40 miles N.E. of Vegas; head to Valley of Fire. Talk
about color and curves. <s>

I think I got your...ahem...drift. hehe.

Yeah, it was the same site, but now also my Windows Updates is telling me I
need to enable Scripting and Active X, so now it too is acting cantankerous.
Anyway, I don't permit Scripting *except for them*. That's why I placed
them in the Trusted zone! They show as being in the trusted zone on the
status bar as well. Just isn't working right (suddenly). Just did a scan
with CWShredder, PestPatrol now. Nothing. Did Spybot and Ad-Aware (earlier
today) and they were clean. WT..(you know the rest) This kinda nonsense only
happens (it seems) when I go out on a limb looking for answers to queries
for these kinds of groups (inet.ie6 and virus.sec or sec NG's).

Yeh...they answered. First I got a friend who joked, then Alan Edwards
appeared: said the same as you (basically) It works for them. PITA this is.

No...I respectfully disagree... It's time to break out the Cognac. Need

They didn't have much to offer in the way of help. Ended up fixing it myself

Where do you keep your new one... Fort Knox maybe? <g>

Why..yes! How did you guess? Yeppa..gots me own private key too. ;-)
Talk about memories. Lol! I was thrust back eons (ok... a few weeks)
with the "half a sole" thing. <VBSG> Very low tech, with high shoe
destruction capabilities... yep...those are the one's alright! Look
awfully stupid walking about with the front of the sole flapping

water. I tried to return them, but, I didn't have a receipt. I have a
bazillion receipts for the IRS said:

Nah...they're all over. Even some of your more 'sophisticated' ng's have
them too. But, I usually find a way to either get along, or they avoid me.
;-)
Yeppers... all "fixed". ;-)
