IE6 saving images

Over the past week I have got a problem with IE....

no-matter what type of image i try to save from the web
(gif, jpeg.etc) IE's "save picture as" will only let me a
BITMAP.bmp.

I have tried changing the extension and file type (only
bitmap shown) but it just saves the file with an
extension but in bitmap form.

I am having to copy jpegs into photoshop just to save
them!

What is wrong with it?

That happens when the Temporary Internet Files are too full. In IE click
Tools | Internet Options. Click Delete Files in the Temporary Internet
files section of the General tab. On the next window place a check mark in
the box to Delete all offline content.
