IE6, OE6: Have to re-boot to regain internet access

Fred

Anyone have an idea of what might cause this problem and how
to solve it?

I've been using Win98SE and OE6 and IE6 with Verizon DSL for
about a year with hardly any problems until last couple of
weeks. Am using ZoneAlarm 5.0 for this whole time with no
troubles, and have about 300MB of hard drive space, which is
more than I used to have when it was working fine.

These days, after using for 1/2 hour or so, internet access
freezes - it acts like it the line is disconnected. I have
tried closing and starting the programs again - which
sometimes works. But most of the time I have to shut down
and reboot to regain access, and even that doesn't work all
of the time.

In talking with Verizon, they go through some PING exercizes
and then have me run one of their utility programs,
"winipcfg" which releases and then renews the ethernet
adapter. I don't know what any of these procedures do, but
does not restore internet access.

About out of guesses. All suggestions and ideas are very
much welcome!

Thanks in advance.
