IE6 not responding to text commands

I just updated to IE6 and it works fine to get to all
webpages tested. However, after entering text into text
boxes on a webpage it is not directing the webpage to an
action. For example, on google, entering text into the
search text box and clicking search does not work?
Clicking on a icon to direct the webpage to respond does
work.

What settings need to be changed to get IE6 functional?

Eliminate any possible parasite.

Try this: Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Browsing
Uncheck the Enable 3rd party browser extensions

If this clears your problem then find out who the culprit(s) is/are with
these tools.

Let AD-Aware Scan your system for advertising Spyware
http://www.lavasoftusa.com

or:

SpyBot-S&D
http://security.kolla.de/

p.s Reset the 3rd party browser setting.

Unchecking Enable 3rd party browser did not make a
difference. I rna the AD-Aware scan and quarantined a
number of suspected files. This also had no effect on the
problem. Any other ideas.

Thanks

If you did it exactly the way that Henri suggests and then
undid it you actually wouldn't test anything unless you also
closed all IE windows and made certain that iexplore.exe
stopped being an active task (e.g. press Ctrl-Shift-Esc in NTx
switch to the Processes tab and type i enough times to prove
that to yourself). That's what the "(restart required)" caveat
on the option means.

You haven't disclosed your OS. That might help elicit more
suggestions for diagnostics or repairs.
