i have a web page that will only open in safe mode but woun'e open in normal
mode.

please help i have no virus etc...

Sorry cant help but I seem to be having a similar problem.

I frequently access www.britishairways.com but for the last few days I have
been getting "Cannot find server".
I've tried enabling cookies, adding BA to trusted sites, gone through all my
firewall settings, even phoned BA and spoken to their web support
(hopeless!).

Having searched the internet there seems to have been a problem with Windows
Update and in particular 'KB905915'. It seems that frequently visited web
sites are affected. I have installed this update and now I have removed it
but, unfortunately it still will not open.

I would also like some help!

Unless you give us the url for the webpage and supply more information
about your system - what browser you are using, how you know your
machine is clean, etc. - then you can't get focused answers. Post more
information about your system and the url and someone will check it for
you.

I have the same problem. Here is what is happening.

Windows XP Pro (all the latest updates):

- LAN connect uses DHCP for TCP/IP; file and print sharing; and Client for
MS Networks
- Also have Earthline dial-up (curious, symptoms are at home (EL) and at
work (LAN))
- File sharnig works, email works with OE6
- Mozilla browser works
- IE6 says that "page cannot be displayed"

Virus and Spyware scans:
- I use MS Antispyware Beta
- I use Lavasoft Ad-aware
- I use VirusScan by McAfee

No problems there.

Interesting points:
- Windows Media Player won't play my online radio stations, either.
- For some reason my www.schwab.com web site is fully working.
- my automatic updates icon on the task bar continues to list KB823353
even after it has been installed

Solutions attempted:
- sfc /scannow
- ie.inf (right click install from CD)
- Nortons WinDoc
- Disk Check (okay)
- deleted temporary files
- moved temp file directory to new drive
- checked Downloaded Program Files under "view objects"

Hope this helps, I'll send more as I try new things. The problem started
yesterday.

Hope I'm not hijacking this thread but...

I use Win XP Home, ie6 and can access all websites except anything to
do with www.britishairways.com.

You did hijack the thread, but since the OP didn't come back and we're
here...

I don't have any problem getting to that website. What happens when you
try? It does have Flash on it, so maybe go to www.macromedia.com and
download/install the latest version of Flash.

Apologies if I've broken protocol...

When trying to access BA sites I received the usual 'Cannot Find Server'
with the actual page telling me to check Internet Settings.

The thing is that for months I have been getting in without problem and no
other website - Secure Sites, Music Sites, anything, have been affected.

Having said all that I find today I have access, I desperately need to use
the site tomorrow 23rd so I intend to leave the window open with that site
on show.

We actually have 4 PCs and following the Windows update this affected all of
them, but, hey presto, toady they all connect. I'd think that it was
something to do with BA but every one else seems to be able to access the
site without problem.

Thanks for your help, I'll see what happens tomorrow!

O.k. I have the same problems.. Most all websites work.. Except for
Ebay.com, paypal.com and morriscookbooks.com Which is extremely strange..
the Ebay and Paypal.. I just ignored, and it started happening several months
ago.. But recently, I signed up with MorrisCookbooks.com to publish a
family cookbook.. This was less than 2 weeks ago.. Now today, I can't get
into the site.. says The page cannot be displayed ... The page you are
looking for is currently unavailable. The Web site might be experiencing
technical difficulties, or you may need to adjust your browser settings.
I get this same thing when I go to Paypal.com or Ebay.com..

I have Windows XP Home Edition, all available updates.. I use Microsoft
Antispyware, I also Have Nortons System Works, I went to Microsoft.com
today.. downloaded every update I could find.. Ran all the virus tools, Went
to the windows live security center did a full system scan.. no virus found..

I use cable internet.. with a cable modem and Router. My husbands computer
uses Windows 98 and we use the same cable internet through this router..
His computer goes to paypal, or ebay or morriscookbooks.com just fine...
using the same connection.

I went in and set all my security levels to Low.. Except all cookies...
turned off all firewalls, I just use one.. which is Microsoft.. and have all
others shut off..
I can use my netscape browser and open all these sites.. but internet
explorer will not allow me to open them... so what is the problem ? and how
can I fix them.. you can email me direct if you wish to
(e-mail address removed). Thank You

First, never put your real, unmunged email address on Usenet or in
messageboard postings. It will be harvested by spambots. Here is an
explanation of that:
http://www.mailmsg.com/SPAM_munging.htm

Try re-registering the following dll's at the command prompt (cmd).

If you have SP2, you can do it all in one go:

Start>Run cmd [enter]
iexplore.exe /rereg [enter]

Without SP2:

Start>Run cmd [enter]
regsvr32 mshtml.dll [enter]

Click OK when you get the message that DLLRegisterServer in FileName
succeeded and type "exit" to quit cmd.

Repeat the same with:

regsvr32 mshtmled.dll
regsvr32 urlmon.dll
regsvr32 softpub.dll
regsvr32 wintrust.dll
regsvr32 initpki.dll
regsvr32 dssenh.dll
regsvr32 rsaenh.dll
regsvr32 gpkcsp.dll
regsvr32 sccbase.dll
regsvr32 slbcsp.dll
regsvr32 cryptdlg.dll
