IE6 hangs after downloading a site

N

Newtie

Whenever I open a new site with IE6, the page hangs for
approximately 45 seconds before allowing me to perform any
functions associated with the page. I have taken a number
of steps to try and deal with this including uninstalling
and reinstalling IE6, running Scandisk and Defragmenter,
virus scan from Norton, AdAware scan, rechecking all
settings, and the various service packs associated with
the explorer from Microsoft. All to no avail. This only
started recently (within the last week or so) and I had no
problems before that. Any help or suggestions would be
greatly appreciated. Thanks a bunch.

I have exactly the same problem. I have tried a number of
things including scanning with adware, rest patrol and even
downloaded and purchased a package called the Ultimate
Trouble shooter. All to no avail. I thought it might hav
esomething to do with a conflict between Earthlink Total
Access and The Google tool Bar but uninstalling both did no
good. I restored my system to a date prior to the time I
started having the problem and the problem remained. I
think the problem started after the last automatic update
to IE6. This problem doen not occur in Netscape 7.1. Opera
7.10, MSN 7 or any of the integrated browsers such as the
one that comes in Winamp 3. Strangely enough I have had a
problem with Outlook Express for the past year. When you
start OE for the first time it is supposed to give you a
list of personalities and ask you to log into the one you
wanted, complete with password. This was not working for
the past year. I posted a message here about the same time
but no one had an answer but I did get mail from folks who
were having the same problem. As soon as this problem
started with Internet Explorer, the previous problem
mysteriously fixed itself. If anyone knows what is causing
this I would sure like to know.

I have the same problems, and have gone throught the same
steps. I have searched far and wide for a fix, and am
becoming really discouraged at the help I have gotten rom
Microsoft. If anybody has a fix, please e-mail me. I
appreciate it.

I feel so much better to find that I am not alone in this.
I have been trying to fix this problem for 6 days and
can't. If anybody knows what I can do please email me.
Thanks

A new post offered a fix! He said to download Spy Sweeper
and delete all that it finds. It worked.

First eliminate any scumware.

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated before every use, even when just
downloaded. There's also a lot more to do than just those two programs.

If trying everything at that site does not fix the problem please post back
