IE6 gives directory listing instead of loading image

When clicking a link <a href="someimage.jpg"><img src="someimage_tn.jpg">
</a> instead of opening the image, I get a directory listing. I can click
on the image from the directory and the image loads.

If I do this in Opera or Netscape, this does not happen, the image is
displayed in my browser.

I tried setting the .htaccess file to not allow directory browsing,
thinking this might *force* IE into displaying the image. All that got me
was a Access Denied message.
