IE6 Error The requested URL could not be retrieved

When using ie6 all I get is this page no matter what website I type into
the http window.
ERROR
The requested URL could not be retrieved

I've tried avg anti virus,spybot,adaware,trojan hunter you name it, even
ie6 updates but no joy

I did try posting the source code but got a 441 Posting Failed(rejected
by post filter) error message

Did you install any programs just before this started?

First eliminate any spyware.

Ibeleive it could be something called Alexa but I still can't remove it
with free spyware programs

Perhaps it removes the old pre-installed version of Alexa
but not the one that the user has to download and install
deliberately?

(I haven't checked for facts either. <W>)
