IE6 and Window Update don't work, need SP2

XP 2, Home edition

Crashed to a black screen. The Dell logo and F2 and F12 option would flash
on when 'puter started. Inserted the Dell XP installation disk (I guess
that's what it is--didn't look like a MSoft disc to me) and booted to option
to repair or install. Ran repair. Everything is fine except Internet
Explorer which will not run because RegGet...ValueW could not be located in
the dll shlwapi.dll.

So. I cannot update to SP2 because I cannot run IE. I cannot use Windows
Update without a functional IE, right? Firefox works just fine. If only I
could find a place to download the full version of SP2...? All I can find
is the version for IT developers. I could either download using Firefox on
her computer or download using my computer and save to a jump drive. I have
tried going to Windows Update using my 'puter, but can find no option to
download the SP2 setup.

What to do?

You may be able to request an SP2 CD from Microsoft; check the microsoft.com
website for availability. It takes up to six weeks to arrive. Ask your
friends if any of them may have one already that you could borrow. After
installing SP2 upgrade to IE7.

Once downloaded you can run the installer. Backup your configuration using
the option provided...

The shlwapi.dll doesn't seem to contain that unicode fucntion you listed
which is according to Platform SDK 2003 RC2 information, hence your error
because its located in the AdvAPI32.dll file
