Due to major problems with IE6, I attempted to install an
upgrade "fix". But, I repeatedly received a message that
IE6 must be installed on the computer. But, it IS already
on the computer. Why do I receive this message, and how can
I install the upgrade without receiving this conflicting
message?

I attempted to install an upgrade "fix".

Since you have given us so little information about your system,
one possibility which fits the facts you have given would be:
you have XPsp1 and you may have visited Windows Update
for one of the cumulative security patches for IE; in any case
you now have decided to install an unspecified patch of some
unknown age and expect it to apply independently to whatever
it is that you have managed to accumulate.

It doesn't work that way. Details are important. If you don't want to
disclose any, try reading the relevant articles to determine whether the
version of the modules that you are trying to install have been superseded
by the versions of the same modules that you already have.

Good luck
