IE6.0 crashes when using AdobeReader6.0

Hello,

When surfing the Internet, I opened a new IE window to
view a PDF file (right click -> Open in New Window).
When I attempted to close the PDF widnow, all IE windows
would crash.

The error message I got was:
Title = "IEXPLORE.EXE - Application Error"
Message = "The instruction at "0x0394f45b" referenced
memory at "0x00000000". The memory could not be "read".
Click on OK to terminate the program
Click on CANCEL to debug the program"

Versions I am using:
IE 6.0.2800.1106
Adobe Reader 6.0.0

Is there a patch which I can download to fix this problem?

Thanks

Tony

Uninstall Acrobat Reader and re-install it from the Adobe Web site.

Hi Frank,

Un-installing and re-installing Acrobat Reader from
their web-site did not solve the problem.

(When the all the IE window crashed, a thread of the
"Acrobat" process would still be running in the CPU as
indicated by the task manager.)

Thanks.

Eliminate any scumware.
See

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated with the program's update function
before every use, even when just downloaded. There's also a lot more to do
than just those two programs. CWShredder is also available here:

If nothing there helps, please post back to this thread.

I had nothing but trouble with Acrobat Reader 6 and finally uninstalled it
and reinstalled 5.0. It works very fast, has not crashed IE yet and I
haven't found a .pdf that it won't work with. You can get it from the same
site...just tell the software selector that you are running Windows 95 and
it will let you download 5.0 Reader.

I had the same problem. The instructions say to uninstall the previous
version before installing the new version. I was in a hurry and didn't do
the version 5 uninstall. When I finally woke up as to what was going on, I
uninstalled both versions, then reinstalled version 6. No crashes since
then.

Hello All,

The problem is solved now. This is what I did:

(1) Uninstalled Acrobat Read 6.0 and installed Acrobat
5.0. Didn't solve the problem.

(2) Un-installed Acrobat 5.0 and re-install Acrobat 6.0.
Still didn't solve the problem.

(3) Installed SpyBot S & D. Cleaned up the system. Didn't
help. Still had the same problem.

This Step WORKS:
(4) Un-installed MSN Tool Bar (the one that blocks pop-up
windows). Problem was solved.

(5) Re-installed MSN Tool Bar. Problem did NOT re-appear.
i.e, I am still happy.

Thanks a lot for your help.

Glad it worked, but I'm very surprised that re-installing the MSN toolbar
did not bring the problem back. Oh, well.
