I have a Win98 PC, with a DSL connection. I gave ping any
web site, but IE will not display any web page. I get the
standard "this page cannot be displayed" mesage with
the "DNS error" message. I have put in the proper DNS
servers to no avail. Reloaded win98 no help. Also in the
trusted zones there is a zone of *.0.0.0.0, this zone
will not remove, I highlight it click on remove and it
goes away, close out of the trusted zones, and go back in
and it is back. any ideas. Thanks

in the trusted zones there is a zone of *.0.0.0.0

I see file://*.0.0.0.0 in the Local Intranet zone Web sites.

Is that what you mean? Why would you want to delete that?

Have you tried an IE Repair?

If you like try some of the diagnostic suggestions I gave to C. A. Upsdell
a few days ago

If you have a site you can ping successfully you will have better luck
with the MTU test we mention there. Also although you may not have
a telnet command line client you may have HyperTerminal which can
can be used as one. (E.g. Connect Using: TCP/IP (Winsock) and Port
number 80) That way you could capture the first response you get from
the host site to determine if it seemed to be all there. And, although you
couldn't use netcap to provide a fuller trace you could I think find a version
of Ethereal which would do that on your OS too.

But if you haven't been paying attention to any of the other threads here
where similar problems have been discussed you might be best off first
considering possibilities such as malware and other commonly suggested
repairs such as the "LSP-Fix".

Good luck
