I upgraded to XP, now I have a problem in outlook
express. I can not uninstall IE and I get errors trying
to reinstall IE. Can I force the installation of IE 6
past the errors?
 
Grant, here some information for you to consider your options carefully:-



The easy way to reinstall Internet Explorer (Only works in WinXP SP1)

a.. Quit Internet Explorer and Outlook Express
b.. Open Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs
c.. Untick "Internet Explorer" and click the "Next"-button and let
Internet Explorer be uninstalled
d.. To reinstall again open Control Panel -> Add/Remove Programs and tick
"Internet Explorer" and click the "Next"-Button
Or

To Reinstall IE in Windows XP by clicking Start, Run and entering the
following command:
rundll32.exe setupapi,InstallHinfSection DefaultInstall 132
%windir%\Inf\ie.inf

Or

Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.x Repair for Windows XP.

· From the Start menu, select Run.

· In the Open field, type sfc /scannow (Note: There is a space
between sfc and /scannow)

· Select the OK button.

· Follow the prompts throughout the System File Checker process.

Reboot the computer when System File Checker completes.

Microsoft Internet Explorer 6.x Repair for Windows XP

.. From the Start menu, select Search, select All Files and Folders.
.. Select More Advanced Options and place a checkmark beside Search Hidden
Files and Folders option.
.. Ensure that Search System Folders and Search Subfolders are also checked.
.. In the All or Part of the File Name box, type ie.inf
.. In the Look In drop-down menu, select C: or the letter of the hard drive
that contains the Windows folder.
.. Click the Search button.
.. In the search results pane, find the ie.inf file located in Windows\Inf
folder.
.. Right click the ie.inf file and click Install on the context menu.
Reboot the computer when the file copy process is complete.

NB: To reinstall Outlook Express, right click the following file and click
"Install"

Or

If a repair doesn't do the trick, you can try a reinstall:
Start the Registry Editor

Go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Active Setup \ Installed
Components \ {89820200-ECBD-11cf-8B85-00AA005B4383}

right-click the IsInstalled value, and then click Modify
Change the value data, from 1 to 0
Close the registry editor

Download and install Internet Explorer 6.

The above will let you reinstall the Internet Explorer 6 browser component.
To reinstall Outlook Express 6, change the IsInstalled value from the
following registry key: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE \ SOFTWARE \ Microsoft \ Active
Setup \ Installed Components \ {44BBA840-CC51-11CF-AAFA-00AA00B6015C}

Note: You need to be logged on as an administrator to be able to change
these registry keys.

Note you can save the registry key first by:
On the File menu, click Export.
In the File name box, type SaveKey, and then click Save.
Or create a system restore point prior to editing.
Note: If the registry key is not there, you can simply create one by going
edit > new.
