IE won't display images

Ok, so the other day IE just stopped displaying some images on websites. I
have cleared all caches, increased the size of the temp internet folder,
updated all software, checked all configurations, troubleshot all
firewall/antivirus programs, ran multiple party spyware programs, and even
tried other browsers. IE, Firefox, Opera, and Netscape all give me the same
problem. About a third of all browsing I do will show images, the rest will
not. Please for the love of God somebody help me. I've been going out of my
mind for over a week now! Thanks!

My computer is having the same problem! I even defragmented my hard drive,
searched it for errors, ran a virus check and a spyware/adware check, and
nothing seems to work. I am also about to go crazy!

What kind of Operating system are you both running? Win 98, 2000, XP Home, XP
Pro? What kind of connection are you running? Cable, DSL, Dial-up? Do you
have to log in using any kind of ISP software like AOL? If you are running
dial-up, are you on accelerated dial-up?

I know that some of those dial-up "web accelerators" only increase the page
load times by distorting the quality of web site images. Although this is
highly unlikely your problem I am interested finding out.

For my own personal experience I have noticed certain websites that I
couldn't seem to get the page images to load. At that time i made a few
adjustments to my internet options decreasing my security levels which were a
little too high and opening up a little on my cookie consumption. That worked
a few times, but other times I had to add sites to my trusted zones and for
others I had to change settings on my firewall (Zone Alarm Pro).

Your problem may be very similar, but it would be good to know the specifics
first.

Best Regards,

Ithompson

I'm running Win 2k Pro on a cable modem. I've spent time reconfiguring every
IE setting and every firewall/virus setting and to no avail have I not solved
my problem.

FINALLY, some information, or at least knowledge I'm not crazy. I'm having
the same issue - tried all kinds of fixes, tried Mozilla and Opera, some
sites have dropped images and I can't see how to get them back. I have XP
SP2, IE 6 - maybe after I d/l'd Windows Updates? Might be... but it's been
really frustrating trying to troubleshoot this.

I am running Windows XP and have a cable internet. I'm not using AOL or any
other kind of "extra" software to log on.
The missing pictures only sometimes happen, but it's becoming more and more
common. Here's an example from my situation... the website www.myspace.com.
When I go to that webpage, sometimes the pictures show up, and sometimes they
don't. Then if I go to another webpage, like www.msn.com, some of the
pictures don't show up either. If I go back to Myspace, sometimes the
pictures work, and sometimes they don't. It is totally hit and miss. If I
close the window, and restart Internet Explorer, the pictures work for a
while and then stop.

Frank you are my savior! For the time being all is working as should. 2
questions remain however. I've had the McAfee suite on here for 3 months and
the problems I was having with webpages only started last week, why would
that be? Also I tried to reconfigure privacy service to see what would work
with it on, and the only thing I can do is disable it. There has to be a way
to configure the program so I can leave it on, anyone know? I put the
websites in the "allow" list and "cookie" list but they still don't work
unless the privacy is straight off. Thanks again

Yay, it worked. But why? What changed? I've been using McA's security
center for well over a year and haven't had this trouble until this week.
Obviously something made this happen and you know what it is. :) Did McA
update something? Was a KB install?

Do tell. And thank you.

I don't know what they did, but I'm an OE MVP and McAfee has a long history
of erasing the OE message store when email scanning is turned on. I don't
allow anything from McAfee or Norton on any of the (7) machines in this
building.

Hi pilot :)

You don't mention which version of Windows or IE you are using, but, there
are a few things that you might try.

First - Do you have an accelerator supplied by your ISP? If so, try turning
it off.
It works by reducing image size (and therefor quality) for downloads.

Try clearing the IE cache. I.E./Tools/Options/General/Delete files (and
delete offline content.)

Zone Alarm Pro can block Images in IE

1. Go into IE>Tools>Internet Options>Security>Custom level>reset custom
level to Medium or Low
2. Go into IE>Tools>Internet Options>Privacy>set the slider to Medium or Low
3. Go to this site and read on adjusting the Privacy settings in ZA. It will
explain how to customize on a per site basis.

Kerio Personal Firewall and any other anti-advertisement software you have
on your system will also do this.

If still no joy………..

Click on the Advanced tab.
Scroll down to the Multimedia section and make sure the box>Show Pictures>
is
ticked.

Frank,
Let me add my heartfelt thanks as well. You have fixed my problem, which
started about 4 weeks ago as well. I have spent hours on this and your simple
suggestion has fixed it for me.
