Last week my computer stopped connecting to my Cable ISP,
i.e. Comcast. After calling their support center and them
assisting me, they told me that my IE 6.0 with SP6.1 had
acquired an embedded virus. Their solution was to
uninstall all of IE and then reinstall. I thought that I
did that, even reinstalling with IE 5.5. However, I still
have the same problem. Any help or suggestionsgetting
around or through this situation will be greatly
appreciated.

Try running the Winsock repair tools on the very bottom
of this page:
http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm

It is best if you run one or both of the following first:

Download/install/run Ad-Aware from:
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/
This will detect any spyware on your system. When you run Ad-Aware, click on
the ref update to get the latest up-to-date ref file, run Ad-Aware and
delete everything it finds.

If you are more advanced, then download/install/run:
Spybot - Search & Destroy from :
http://security.kolla.de/index.php?lang=en&page=download

Hope this helps.
