IE Warning computer tracked

A watning message appeared at the bottom of the screen
where dialogue runs such as "opening page http.yahoo.com"
the message appeared "IE warning your computer has been
tracked" and my antivirus captured a malicious script. I
had to close the browser to remove the warning. I have
not had the message again. Was the script an attempt to
advertise software?
There was no ad offering any software such as evidence
eliminator, history kill or firewall? Thanks again for
your time and response. Was this supposed to be a pop-up
that went bad? or something else?
