I notice there is no version, cipher strength or product id showing - even
tho i have reinstalled ie. If i go to win update it loads a blank page with
no writing or error whatsoever on it.
Also some functions do no work when i click on them - help & support, system
restore & i cannot copy and paste by right click or thru edit menu.
Have XP Home Edition SP1. Could not get SP2 to install.

Thanks.

maree,

Cliean your system. Download, install, update and scan with Ad-aware:
http://www.lavasoftusa.com

Without knowing more, see if any of this helps or applies:

Go to Start/Run and type in each:

regsvr32 /u C:\Winnt\System32\hhctrl.ocx
regsvr32 C:\Winnt\System32\hhctrl.ocx

Note: C:\Windows or C:\Winnt depending on your setup.

If you are using any HTA blockers, it will cause this behavior. If per
chance this is the
case and you are using HTAStop (as an example) enable HTA applications.

/taskbarplus!.htm

Go to Start, Run
type: regsvr32 jscript.dll
- press Enter
- this should populate the version number and cipher strength in the About
window of Internet Explorer. This should also allow you to browse secure
websites (if a firewall is not blocking access to secure websites)
- let us know if this helped.

I was having the same problem as Maree (IE showing no information). I
was also having problems with WINDOWSUPDATE.MICROSOFT.COM loading, and
all this was fixed by registering jscript.dll.

Thanks,
