IE user Home Page Issues.... Help!

R

Rick

I am having problems setting up a different user's home
page in Internet Explorer. Whenever a limited user logs
on, the AntiSpyware's Real Time Protection keeps on
giving me the error:

"The IE URL for your start page is attempting to be
changed from http://www.myadministrators_homepage.com /
to http://www.mylimitedusers_homepage.com"

It does give me the option to allow for the change, but
the message continues to pop up every time a limited user
logs on.

Any way around this??? How can I set up a different IE
home page for each user without getting these annoying
alerts??

Rick - I replied to a post of yours, I guess in another group.

I don't see a fix for this in this version of the product, except to disable
the particular agent involved. I gave instructions that I think will
accomplish that in the other reply.

Reply here if you can't find the other reply.

I did as you recommended and it is no longer giving me
those annoying messages. Thakns. It would be nice to not
HAVE to disable that feature, and instead give you an
option to put an IE home page for each individual user.
Just a thought! But thanks, it was definitely helpful.

I am also having issues with my .NET accounts. First of
all, and I am not sure which setting to change,
AntiSpyware is deleting the login name and password in
the .NET log in screen for Windows Messenger. The limited
users' accounts were set up so that Windows Messenger
would sign in automatically when they logged in to the
computer. After installing Antispyware, tries sign in
during start up but fails and it is kept in the system
tray. Furthermore, if you try to sign in manually it does
not allow the user to sign in if they click on the "sign
me in automatically" checkbox. It gives you the "signing
in to .NET Messenger Services failed because the password
is incorrect or the sing in name doesn't exist. If you
have forgotten the password..." It does allow the user to
sign in if the "sign me in automatically" checkbox is not
checked. How can I get around this without compromising
security??

I hope that we are not seeing the final design on the URL checkpoints for
Internet Explorer.

I don't have any ideas on your second issue. If I start Windows Messenger,
it comes up with my passport displayed, and I click on it and it works. If
I start MSN Messenger, it autologs in.

I don't see where to set autologon in Windows Messenger, so I can't test if
that works.

If you right-click Microsoft Antispyware, and choose to shut it down, do
those things work right? (in your case, I think you'd need to remove it
from the run key in the registry so that it doesn't start up as you restart
or switch users?

I temporarily turned off Antispyware and Messenger was
still giving me the same problem! I took it out from the
autorun key so that it doesn't startup when Windows
starts. But, obviously the problem is still there. Here's
something else to throw into the mix: There are 2 limited
users. Messenger was not automatically login at start up
for either one of them. But on one of the users,
Messenger starts up after clicking on signing in. It
remembers the user's log in and pswd. The same user can
also automatically log in by clicking on the Messenger
icon in the IE toolbar. All this with no problem. The
other user on the other hand, is given the prompt I was
talking about earlier if he tries to log in in either of
the two ways described above. What in the world am I
missing???

I have the same problem. If you log on as Administrator
then you can change and store the default home page. If
you log on to a User account Microsoft Antispyware cannot
chage the default home page, presumably because the user
account does not have enough permissions. So you get the
same error message every time a User account is
accessed. I'm surprised this is not reported as a Known
Issue.

I don't know, Rick--I think I'd say stay tuned and check these issues again
in a further release of this beta.
