I have a problem with a pc on my domain. When I type the url of a Web site IE
point on a wrong adress. All other machine on my network work fine and point
on the correct web site. On the machine with the problem lmhost file is clean.
Can anyone help me?
Thanks
On the problem PC:
1. Check the Hosts file. Windows uses the Hosts file, not the Lmhosts
file, for web access.
2. Run "ipconfig /all" and check the DNS server addresses. It's
possible that they've been changed to undesired values.
3. Check the local area network connection's TCP/IP properties and see
if undesired DNS server addresses have been entered.
There's a rootkit infection that can hijack DNS server settings in
those and other ways. Here's a removal tool that I used successfully
to fix such an infection on a client's computer recently:
http://downloads.subratam.org/Fixwareout.exe
Run the removal tool if the DNS server addresses have been set to
85.255.113.150 or 85.255.112.233:
