IE sometimes set to work offline

For some reason, IE goes into "suspense" mode when
connected to the internet. Sometimes when I open the
browser, it gives me the "connect - work offline" choice,
sometimes when leaving a browser open for a while it does
the same. Is there a setting that determines a "timeout"
that I can override?
