IE search hijack

I have read other problems with IE and now I have one. My
deault search is gone. I now have something called
web search". They give instructions for removal but it
doesn't work. I called them in Florida today and spent 1
hour working on the registry. No good. Reset my internet
options. Nothing will remove this! Tonight they emailed
me yet another set of instructions and it doesn't work
either. Any suggestions?

I am having the very same problem, except there are no

addition, my IE desktop icon has disappeared. Have you
received any further information?

Download Ad-aware and the latest defs from http://www.lavasoftusa.com , or
Spybot, and pay attention to what it tells you to do.

Also look for entries in add/remove programs, including one that points to
a "Windows search" but is actually a 3rd-party add-in (adware) and get rid
of it.

Pat,
Try these parasite removal programs in this order.

Download and run Run CWShredder from
http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/downloads.html

Then download, install, *update* and run both of these programs:
Ad-aware from http://www.lavasoft.de/software/adaware/
Spybot from http://security.kolla.de/ (Remove items listed in red-others are
optional.)
Both programs should be updated after installation- before use.

If unsuccessful with those programs, go to The Parasite Fight - Quick Fix
