IE Re-install Problem

Re-installed Me OS from disk & forgot that IE5.5 came on
disk. Had 6.0 installed. Selected Old Settings for IE when
asked. After Office Updates gave Error Msg I tried to Re-
install ME and then Update IE 5.5 to 6.0 but keep getting
Error Msg that Windows never completed Install & to Re-
Boot. Vicious cycle. Office Updates either related or
different problem. Any thoughts.

MS Support had me Search for many files/attempts at
updating to IE6 in DOS but finally had me rename (2) .dll
Files to ".old". Installed IE5.5 SP update over 5.5, then
installed IE6 SP1 over 5.5 SP2. Worked. Problem is we
tried so many things I can't remember exact files renamed
but this (method) info may save time if taking with expert
friend or MS Support.
