IE Problem

Here is my problem.

A friend has a XP box with four user accounts on it. IE
only opens web pages for one user and not the other three.
When I am logged in as any of the users I can still ping
the DNS servers. I removed some adware, uninstalled and
reinstalled IE, and even tried using restore points but
was unsuccessful. Every time I tried to enter an address
in the bar, the status bar starts going to
find.greatsearch,info/apps/eps....web site and stops
trying to load.

Are there any user specific settings that affect IE that I
am unaware of? Any help would be appreciated!

We get this where I work alot - go into Tools, internet
options, connections, LAN settings and make sure that the
proxy settings match what they should be. I see it a lot
where people have a proxy set, but no proxy on the
network - will keep them fromm getting out to the Internet.

I check the proxy and all settings are cleared and the
setting to automatically detedt settings is checked.
Any other ideas?
