IE not responding

IE stops responding, sometimes just after I open it!
Whenever I open IE, I have to wait a minute or two for a
bunch (3-5) pop-ups to load. If I try to interrupt them
by closing them as soon as I see them, I get the error.
Lots of times, I'll get the error even if I haven't tried
to close the pop-up, or sometimes even when there are not
any pop-ups visible. To close the non-responding window,
I can sometimes click on the close button (red X) and
will then get a message the IE is not responding, do I
want to end now and send an error message, or sometimes I
have to go to Task Manager and actually end the program
there.

I suspect that I may have a problem with spy- &/or ad-
ware, but I'm wary of downloading spybot search and
destroy and Ad-aware.

I have Windows XP and IE 6.0. Any thoughts on how to fix
this very annoying problem?

You are definitely a victim of browser hijacking. There is no other choice
really but to download some anti-hijacking software.
You can check for unwanted programs in the Add-Remove Programs control panel
and un-install them but most of the time the hijacker will not be so
considerate as to allow you to easily remove their programs from your
computer.

Before downloading anything always carefully read the terms and conditions.
