I've used autocomplete, tried to edit the registry but Windows won't let me
delete the subkey, and toyed with the settings in the security options to no
avail. What else can i do?

Password for WHAT? IE itself doesn't need a password to load it so the
password is for something else, like the login for some web site.

Sorry for the incomplete data. I meant the password I use when I log into any
website. We work behind a server so I need to enter the username and password
everytime I access the web.

Does that mean that you must go through a local proxy server before
connecting to an external web site? If so, do you have to use SSL to
connect to the proxy server? If it is an SSL connect, your login
credentials don't get cached.

Did you check the AutoComplete options in IE to see if they are enabled?
One of its options is to cache usernames and passwords. However, if at
one point you checked the box to no longer present the dialog to
remember username and passwords then you won't get it again so they
don't get cached. You'll need to reenable the "Prompt me" AutoComplete
option to get that dialog back so when prompted (and you say Yes) then
the login credentials get cached.
