IE Memory Usage

Did a December '06 update change IE to eat more memory or has it always been
this bad and it's just someone finally noticed today?
Windows Updates installed for December include KBs
905915,910437,923689,923694,925398,925454,926255.

I have 1 GB memory in my PC. If I open Internet Explorer and check Taskmon,
it says it eats 39,300K memory initially, at the home page www.google.com.
If I go to another site, like www.microsoft.com, that goes way up fast
(52,300K+).

A user, with 128MB RAM, got a message today about insufficient memory and
all they had open was MS Outlook (not using much) and 2 IE windows (eating
20,836K and 22,488K memory). Taskmon said:

IE is an upgrade to your OS. YEs, now your OS will use more ram to run,
and your pc will run slower.

I"m not asking you to bash on IE and say it will slow down my PC in general.
We've always used IE here with no problems. I'm just asking if a recent MS
update caused IE to eat more RAM than it used to, since a user with 2
browsers and almost nothing else open ran out of RAM and this is the first
time a problem like that was reported. I know a lot of people use Firefox
and hate IE for whatever reason. You did not answer my question.
