IE Keeps locking up for 15 seconds after going to a web page

Hi. I've been having this problem for almost a week now. This past Saturday morning I attempted to go online using IE 6.0 and noticed that every time I went to a new web page or another link within the same webpage IE locks up after all information is downloaded and it says Done on the lower left hand corner. After 15 seconds I'm able to browse the page, but once I go to another link or a new website, it always does the same thing. I did a complete virus check and nothing. Defragged and nothing. System restore and nothing. Removed IE as a Window component and re-installed it and nothing still. I made no downloads for more than two weeks so nothing I downloaded is causing a problem I think. I pinged and I'm getting regular TTL times. My IP configuration is the same and no problems there. I made sure I had all the latest Windows XP updates and it still doesn't solve the problem. I then downloaded Netscape Navigator 7.1 and have NO problems. Has anyone heard or experienced this problem before??. LOL the problem is so mysterious that myself and my Uncle are both network administrators and we can't figure it out!! His solution was to throw my relatively new PC out the window and see if that works. Anyway any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Thanks.

This is almost certainly a spyware/parasite problem. Work through the
solutions at:
Dealing with Unwanted Spyware and Parasites:
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm
Be sure to download, update and run Ad-aware and Spybot.
Download and run CWShredder.
Try Spy Sweeper from http://www.spysweeper.com/ (not listed at
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm )

If all of those programs fail, use HijackThis to post a log to the
appropriate forum at one of these sites:

Hope this helps,

Did that, still doesn't work. While we should rountinely
scan for spyware, this has been a BOGUS solution by many a
Microsoft MVP on several bulletins.

Solution: NETSCAPE NAVIGATOR :O)

I have had the same problem for a while now as well. The
only thing that seems to work for me is typing the URL
into the Google Toolbar that i have and it opens up the
page immediately. downloaded Microsoft's updates for the
problemn but it didn't do a thing

I Found that by going to add remove programs and looking
for shopping programs and deleting them then it solved
Specifically Home Shopping files

Tim,
You should use the browser of your choice. I have 3 of them installed.

But... IE is *not* locking up or freezing or stalling or hanging for
millions of users.

Don

First eliminate any scumware.
See
Dealing with Unwanted Spyware, Parasites, Toolbars and Search Engines
http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated before every use, even when just
downloaded. There's also a lot more to do than just those two programs.
CWShredder is also available here:
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/regs_edits/cwshredder.zip
**Post your HijackThis log to
http://forums.spywareinfo.com/ or the Spyware forum at
http://forum.aumha.org/ for expert analysis, not here.**
Alternative download pages for Ad-Aware, Spybot, HijackThis and CWShredder
may be found on this page:
http://aumha.org/a/parasite.htm.
If trying everything at that site does not fix the problem please post back
in the same thread.

I understand that. All I'm saying is that the blanket
solution of running all these anti-Spyware programs isn't
working for everyone which is frustrating when everyone on
your network is using IE.

Hi Tim,
Had the exact same problem and just solved it, check for a proces
named 711codcg.exe, terminate the process. Look for the same exe i
WINNT\system32, you can probably erase it but i chose to rename it.
could not find any reference to this process anywhere on the web, tha
seemed suspicious. Once i stopped the process the ie6 stalling proble
was resolved. As in your case, adaware and spybot did not fin
anything.

I suspect this is a type of spyware that creates a random name exe an
registers the process which could mean that what you should be lookin
for is not named 711codcg.exe but probably starts with a number...

In any case it is wise to check on the web if the process that seem
suspicious isnt actually an integral part of either your OS or a rea
program your system is running, BEFORE you stop a process or rename a
exe.

Keep me posted.

And... I agree that IE has security holes. ;-)
It's unfortunate that the "bad guys" have gotten so good at infecting
computers and that it took a while for the "good guys" (Ad-aware, Spybot,
etc) to catch this latest wave.
I suspect that the security tips at http://mvps.org/winhelp2002/unwanted.htm
(and other sites) would have prevented these infections.
I imagine the next browser from MS will be much more secure.
