IE is going crazy

I have seen a lot of crazy things, but this tops them all. I have XP Home with IE6 installed and 3 different user accounts. This is my problem. Sometimes I log on, open internet explorer and try to go to a website. The website comes up fine, but when I try to type in any field or even the address bar nothing displays. If I click a button the links work fine, but nothing can be done with the keyboard. It acts like I am not typing anything. Once this starts I cant close IE or anything it just locks up (only can CTRL-ALT-DEL it). Now if I click on start and run I can type in http://www.microsoft.com for example and it will take me to the microsoft website, but non of the fields work on the site there on. Now if I switch users the new user I log on as works fine sometimes and other times it has the same problem. I have tried everything I know to fix the problem, scanned for viruses, did system restore, ran a spybot killer. NOTHING.... Any ideas on what could cause this insanity. I really dont want to have to format this computer.

My IE6 does something very similar. It sometimes won't let me type in the address bar or in a webpage. When I finally can type it changes from upper case to lower case letters. When I try to click on a link either another occurrence of my home page opens or the last page I viewed opens in another window. When I restart my computer IE6 is ok for a short time and then it starts all over again.

Open the Internet Options applet in Control Panel
Uncheck "Enable third-party browser extensions" on the Advanced tab.
You may also have to set the Home Page to about:blank

Then eliminate any scumware.

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated with the program's update function
before every use, even when just downloaded. There's also a lot more to do
than just those two programs. CWShredder is also available here:

**Post your HijackThis log to

If trying everything at that site does not fix the problem please post back
in the same thread.
