IE has become EXTREMELY slow

Hello:

I recently started experiencing problems with IE 6.0
becoming very very slow. I have a moderately fast machine
(P2-700MHz, 128MB ram). Also, the Task Manager now seems
to indicate that the processes are using more than 140MB
of moemory. I suspect some of the processes that are
running are illegitimate. If so, is there a way for me to
figure out and eliminate them. Also, the home page of IE
seems to get reset to a fixed site every time I log in,
even though I set it to a differnt one (using the Internet
Options menu) everytime.

Any help or direction is much appreciate. I'm at my wits
end!

Thanks,
Anjan
