IE Hangs when opening a website using the CONTROL OPEN COMMAND

I am having the same problem. When I enter the address and press enter IE
goes into "not responding" mode. I tried to solve it by downloading the beta
version of IE7 but the problem persists. The only way I have now of browsing
is to enter the required site in Google and following the link from there.
Does anybody have a solution? Also, why do we have to waste so much time
clearing up these bloody annoying problems?

My computer just automatically updated, and I am having the same exact
problem. I have a Google toolbar, and that is the only way I am able to
either type in new URLs. I also can't use the drop down box to pull up
frequently used URLs there. I just get an hourglass and IE freezes. I hope
someone knows the answer!

I have the exact same issue... windows update loaded a couple of days ago
and now IE hangs up when you click on the drop down addresses. Can't seem to
find a fix other than restore to the point before the update.

I am in the same boat. I have found if you know the exact address you can
type in the http://www.blahblahblah it will go where you want, but what a
pain in the arse. I am not real computer savy and this is making me want to
go back to AOL. HELP!!

My IE address bar has started to hang also. Started this past weekend. I
don't know much about computers but I would love to have an "easy" fix...this
is driving me crazy.

I have exactly the same experience. The problem started after recent updates.
I can get into sites via favourite seqarch engines but seldon directly. I
guess this is one update that needs correcting asap.

This problem seems to have resolved itself and in fact a better way of
getting onto websites has appeared. In windows 7 beta you just type in the
name of the site (say....BT) with no www or com or co.uk and hit control and
enter and off it goes. Isn't Bill Gates wonderful!
