IE crashes while opening pages

Greetings:

Whenever I use IE to open websites, I notice when I type an address into the
address bar IE crashes, and when I go to open a new window IE also crashes,
but when I pick a website from the drop down list it works fine and loads the
page. If I use MSN and attempt to access my inbox, IE pops up and does
nothing, it doesn't attempt to connect to the site.

Any thoughts?

I don't think it's malware. After a peek through the Event Viewer, I
discovered this:

Faulting application iexplore.exe, version 6.0.2900.2180, faulting module
browseui.dll, version 6.0.2800.1106, fault address 0x0000322c.

For more information, see Help and Support Center at
http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/events.asp.

It seems to be a version mismatch. Any ideas how to fix this?

I can't check for version mismatch since I have IE7B2p on this machine and
I'm not at home to check a machine with IE6SP2. However, an error in
browseui.dll makes me even more suspicious of malware. Errors often occur
in a third party file and Windows doesn't detect them until they get to a
Windows file. Think of all the kernel32.dll errors fixed by fixing the
video drivers.

Actually I found (yay) a browseui.dll file online similar to the IE version I
have. I downloaded that and placed it into my Internet Explorer folder and it
fixed everything. I didn't suspect malware because scans with McAfee
VirusScan, McAfee AntiSpyware, Windows Defender Beta 2, and the Windows Live
Safety Scanner (includes a virus scan) came up empty. Thanks for your help
anyway.
