I posted this before but it has long since been flushed from the first
dousen pages... Internet explorer will hang for about 2-3 mins when you
open a new window for it, before resuming regular operation. This
includes pop-ups and new window links, as well as all programs taht use
a IE plugin.

I have tried:
Clearing all cookies, cache, history, Index.dat files, etc.
Disabling 3rd party extensions
Resetting my home page

If anyone can help, i would greatly appriciate it

Yes, I have the same issue with IE (nutshell explanation of issue at bottom); FYI running on a Windows 2003 Server (STD). It happened "out of the blue", and is not really related to malicious activity or add-on crud, or anything spy-oriented; nor is it relative to caching, temporary files, or anything related to corruption, in terms of index.dat, etc

[[Side NOTE : At one point, I questioned whether or not it had occured due to some changes I made in the Add/Remove Windows Components section of the Add/Remove Programs applet. Specifically speaking, having to do with the security for administrative browsing (within the Internet Explorer Enhanced Security Configuration selection in the add/remove windows components list. But, I had changed that setting a few times in the past, to experiment, without a problem. I made some other changes also, that last time, so it is more than likely a coincidence. Maybe you use W2K3 server, maybe not, but to explain: there is an extra set of brower security settings for internet explorer, and you'll see it when you pull up a browser for the first time in 2003, even as administrator, and you then have the option to tweak that stuff in the add/remove programs applet [add/remove windows components], and dig around elsewhere, if one so chooses.
Having said all that, I questioned at one point the relationship between these settings (those particular aspects of the enhanced security settings) and my sudden problem with the Internet Explorer "hanging" for two minutes upon entering the application (the IE stuff is still embedded in the OS, I have found). At this point, I had put that explanation in the back of my mind, as coincidence only, and have been investigating.]

I am curious which Windows OS you are using while experiencing the issue

I still have yet to find an explanation, but I am searching. If any one else has experienced this issue, please post your wisdom. I havent been able to spend the kind of time I would like to, because, of course, it is my own server, and not a client's, hehehe. I have seen some problems arise with my Machine Debug Manager at coincidentally the same time (DCOM errors), in the system log....donno

The issue in a nutshell (not sure if it is Windows 2003 Server-specific or not)

When launching Internet Explorer, the application opens up, and the status bar even indicates it has located the home site, and then "hangs" for 120 seconds. After that, the site loads normally, and for the rest of that IE session's life, browsing is 100% normal, no further hitch. Any new IE windows launched will hang in the same exact way, and then run normally in the same exact way, whether you close a forground IE window, and then re-launch, or whether you open sessions simultaneously. The average time it takes to fully "launch" IE, and have it bring up the first page and run normally then, is 2:00 (two minutes)! (Based on timing it five sucessive times

Thanks greatly

First, check out the advice at the URL below:
http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/answers2.htm#connection_freeze

If no joy...

IMPORTANT: Before trying to remove spyware, download a copy of LSPFIX from
the URL below - some malware can kill your internet connection when it is
removed, and this software should get things going for you again:
http://www.cexx.org/lspfix.htm

Get yourself a copy of BHODemon, available at
http://www.definitivesolutions.com/bhodemon.htm .

It does not need installing - simply unzip and run the EXE programme. It is
very easy to use. It will often find the following hijackware DLL files,
and give you the ability to disable them easily.

Many people like AdAware, available at www.lavasoft.de. Make sure you keep
the signature files up to date and remember, AdAware only removes the
current install; it can't do anything about software that reinstalls itself
(unless you want to get stuck in an endless loop of
hijack/cleanout/hijack/cleanout). Sometimes you will have to track down and
remove the software that keeps putting the hijackware back - hence this
advice section. Warning: AdAware is now version 6.181. All previous
versions are NO LONGER SUPPORTED and will not be updated.

The more experienced user can try Spybot. Again, it is a free programme
which can be downloaded from: http://spybot.eon.net.au/. Warning: it is NOT
a good programme for the inexperienced. If you want to use this programme,
please get the advice of those more experienced before 'fixing' anything
that it finds.

Go to the link below to check your system for parasites (supplied by
Doxdesk.com):
http://www.mvps.org/inetexplorer/parasite.htm

Another excellent programme that allows you to examine your system and
*create a results log for experts to examine* is HijackThis, available from:
http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/

Download and run the latest version of "Cool Web Shredder"
http://www.merijn.org/files/CWShredder.exe

Here is advice specific to:

home page hijackings
http://www.mvps.org/inetexplorer/answers.htm#home_page

pop-up ads
http://www.mvps.org/inetexplorer/data/popup.htm

search engine hijackings
http://www.mvps.org/inetexplorer/answers4.htm#search_engine

IMPORTANT: The above programmes are excellent, and a lot of credit goes to
those who authored and update the programmes, but they can NOT detect
everything that is out there - as time goes on the programmes will become
more and more unwieldy if they try to maintain a standard of positive
identification for as much spyware as possible, and it will be harder and
harder for the programmes to catch everything that is out there. More and
more spyware uses RANDOM names as part of their programme making it
impossible for positive identification to occur, therefore....

It is VERY IMPORTANT that you learn how to examine your system for potential
problems as well as using 'fixit' programme such as AdAware or Spybot.

Check your startup folder and MSCONFIG (startup tab). You can also check
the following registry keys and edit as appropriate (if you have experience
with same).

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Runonce

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Runonce

The following link will lead you to some Microsoft KB articles about the
basics of the Registry and working with it:
http://www.mvps.org/inetexplorer/answers.htm#Registry

An experienced computer technician can use programme such as AutoStart
Viewer for in-depth diagnosis:
http://www.diamondcs.com.au/index.php?page=asviewer

Empty your IE cache and your other temporary file folders, eg:
c:\windows\temp (if using Windows 98) or C:\Documents and
Settings\<name>\Local Settings\Temp (the path to your temp folder will
change depending on your name) - sometimes programmes can be hidden in
there - watch out for mysterious *.exe files or *.dll files in those
folders.

Go to IE Tools, Internet Options, Temporary Internet Files {Settings
Button}, View Objects, Downloaded Programme Files. Check for unusual objects
there.

Go to IE Tools, Internet Options, Accessibility. Make sure there is no
style sheet chosen (under User Style Sheet - format documents using my style
sheet). If the option is turned on, turn it OFF.

It is possible to turn off third party extensions (Enable third-party
browser extensions (requires restart) at IE tools, internet options,
advanced) to disable *all* plug-ins but troubleshooting will be difficult
and it is only a BANDAID. Nothing gets fixed. There is software that
depends on 'third party browser extensions" to work, including Acrobat,
Microsoft Money, and many other programmes.

I tryed everything you suggested.... Still the same problem :(. I
disabled all BHOs, i removed anything that modded IE... NOTHING.

This problem came out of the blue. One day i went to boot up mcafee
virus scan and it hung for two mins... i then found out that it was the
IE component hanging, booted up IE, and, sure enough, it hangs.

HELP!

If you really have tried 'everything', then I am out of suggestions.

erm.. I tried everything suggested in your post, not really 'everything'.

I scanned for any adware/malware/hijackers/etc, disabled all
BHO's/browser modifications, tried every piece of software and every
help page you linked to... I have all windows updates....

I'm lost.. :(.

Is there anyway to do a reinstall/repair process on IE? Or is it to
heavily integrated into the OS?

Corrupt video, hanging IE for EXACTLY 120 seconds!?!?! hmmmm...

Anyway, thank you kindly!... I will try some of your suggestions

BTW.....Any experience with DCOM failures, specifically the Machine Debug Manager (as relative to any IE issues)?

I'm still having 0 luck with this :(.

I've run every BHO/hijacker/spyware/adware/virus scan program and every
FAQ on IE issues...

NOTHING on this... Please help... anyone...
