IE hanging update 100 percent cpu

I posted way back and read a bunh of other posts here about IE
hanging.

My update.

After letting the automatic microsoft updater update my system, my IE
would hang whenever it opened and the CPU would go to 100 percent. I
removed the updates and the problem went away. The updates came back
and the problem came back. This time I removed the .net framework from
my xp box and the problem went away. However firefox worked fine
through all this. I moved to firefox as the default browser. It seems
to start slower, but so far (one month) it has had some consistent
performance. IE struggled this morning with some links from fark.com.
Again firefox performed ok and and gave better error messages.

You don't give a hint as to what updates seem to cause you problems, but it
sounds like you have an infected machine and the infection is interfering
with the update.

First eliminate any spyware.

In WinXP SP2: You can fix Winsock by going to Start | Run and typing
CMD
In the command window type

Note that AdAware and SpyBot S & D will each catch some things the other
won't. Also, each needs to be updated with the program's update function
before every use, even when just downloaded. There's also a lot more to do

Thanks for the reply.

No there is no infection on the machine. IE just wasn't working with
the .net framework installation. Removing the .net framework fixed the
problem.
