IE freezes when address doesn't have http:// in front

Hi
When I put an email address in the address bar without the http:// in front
the IE window freezes and I have to use task manager to exit.
This only happened in the last few weeks, prior to that it was working fine.

Can anyone shed some light on this?

By the way I am using IE 6.0.2800.1106 on Windows 2000 professional...
