Hi...

I would like to know if it is possible to clear IE's autocomplete history
without using the Internet Options applet??

So, if anyone knows of a batch file command/registry tweak...I would be
grateful if you could share the knowledge.

Thanks..

Nick :-)

p.s - I'm aware many third party programs can do this but ideally, I want
something I can put into my startup folder/script to run automatically :)

With no programs open,

1. Run REGEDIT and make your way to this key:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet
Explorer\IntelliForms\SPW
2. Export that key (Registry> Export.) If you you wish to undo the change,
doubleclicking on that REG file will restore the original registry key.
3. Delete the SPW key.
4. Restart the computer.

Besides the Run MRU (Most Recently Used) list, this also clears...

IE History, AutoComplete, Clear the TIF, Clear the Run MRU, Typed
URL's and Clear List:

XP Start Menu:
You have to switch to Classic long enough to get the Clear button.
Right click the Start button | Properties | Select Classic Start Menu |
Customize button | Clear button | Click OK | Select Start menu | Click Apply
|Click OK

Classic Start Menu:
Right click the Start button | Properties | Customize button | Clear button

Clear button
[[Removes the list of recently accessed documents, programs, and Web sites
from the Documents menu.]]

The XP Start Menu Clear button does not clear the Run MRU. The Classic
Start Menu Clear button will clear everything in the Run MRU.

Hi..thanks for the reply but deleting that registry key will remove all my
saved passwords wouldn't it???

I don't want to remove the passwords...just the forms data like the drop
down entries from search pages etc.

Hi Wes..

That's pretty helpful so thank you for the suggestion but I have managed to
locate the registry key which stores the encrypted data. I then exported it
and edited the subkeys I wanted to delete and another fantastic MVP advised
how to create a batch file and run it silently so when I logon, all my temp
files caches and index files are deleted plus the autocomplete lists are
sorted too so i'm a happy customer :-)

Thanks again..

Nick
