IE error opening *.asp

I receive the error "IE cannot open http://***.../*.asp
Operation aborted"

when opening some internet pages (particularly articles
off of my local newspaper's site). This worked fine about
a month ago and I cannot find any help on this matter.

Anyone's expertise in this matter would be great!

There's a good possibility that this is being caused by a third-party
program (adware, spyware, parasite).
