IE encounters a problem and has to close

Brian

Good afternoon everyone,

My name is Brian. I am having a frustrating problem with my Internet
Explorer and WIN XP. Everytime I open up IE, click on a link, it opens
another window. Now, the problem occurs when I try closing that window that
opened from clicking on the link. The program freezes and then the
"Microsoft Internet Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close."
error pops up. Now, see the thing is is that I have ran Ad-Aware,
Hijackthis, and Anti-Virus. I downloaded all updates needed as well.
Still, it comes up with this error, and the only file that is associated
with it is "appcompat.txt". Now, if anyone has any info regarding this
issue, could you please reply to this message? I have tried everything, and
am almost ready to just reformat and reinstall my OS.

Thanks,
Brian

Hi Brian,
My name is Rob - this is driving me nuts as well. I'm running Windows 98 and
until recently IE6 had been problem-free. Now it seems that anytime I call up
a site which has lots of animation (sorry - still a technopeasant!), I get
the same message and it closes - returning me to the home page. I've looked
at the content of the error messages but it's far beyond my imagination as to
what it's all about. This has been going on for about two weeks now. I'm
running a current version of Norton anti-virus and have all the updates from
Microsoft which have been recommended. Help!

Thanks,
Rob

We ALL have this problem and there is NO solution. Don't believe me? Try,
just try to see if ONE person has a solution other than to run Spybot or
Adaware. This has plagued me for months and I can't get any answers. I even
tried to pay the Redmond Colosuss $35 for online support and THEY don't have
any idea!
