Hi All,

XP SP2, Office 97 SR2B, IE 6. I get a ‘page cannot be displayed’ when I
click on a link for an Excel spreadsheet or word doc. I can ‘Save target
as’ then view the Excel file or Word doc from the local HD. This does
not work even if I set up my own HTML page with out a ‘Server’ and
simply double click the HTML document (which opens in IE) then click on
a link for a XLS file.
I have looked at an tried the MS KB article 162059 “How to configure
Internet Explorer to open Office documents in the appropriate office
program instead of Internet Explorer” This did not work.
Also when reinstalling Office 97 I get an error about it not being able
to register htmlmarq.ocx , I have manually registered this file but this
had no effect .

It is possible that someone reading this newsgroup will have the answer
for you (and I'm sorry but I don't); however, you'll have a better
chance of getting responses from people who are experts in Office if
you post to an Office newsgroup. Here is a list of all the MS
newsgroups:
