Accidentally deleted my IE icon from the desktop. Opened
IE, went to Options, Advanced, but the Show IE on the
Desktop option does not appear. What gives, how can I get
it back? Thanks!

start
control panel
display
desktop tab
customize desktop button
make desired changes
exit with apply/ok

Try this:
Go to Wndows (not Internet) Explorer.
Find Internet Explorer ( probably in Program Files) - open, find
IEXPLORE.EXE,
right click,Send to - Desktop(create shortcut)

You can go to Start, Find, Files and Folders, type
Internet Explorer and find the actual internet explorer
exe file and right click and select send to, then Desktop
(as shortcut).

after you get the IE icon back on the desktop
drag and drop into quick launch area next
to the start button. then single click to launch IE.

It is different in different operating systems.

Desktop icon Win9x
IE-Tools-Internet Options-Advanced
Check "Show Internet Explorer on the desktop"

For XP:
Control Panel-Display Properties-Desktop tab.
Customize Desktop

PJ,
If you haven't dumped your Recycle Bin, open it and find the
icon and RIGHT click it and select restore from the menu...
You might also try in Internet Options window of UNchecking it
and hit APPLY and and then RE check it and hit APPLY again and OK
your way out and then close IE and reopen it... You might even reboot
after this and see if it comes back.

I'd like to thank you for your advice. You're right; diff OS have diff paths. I'm in 2000 and, I don't know how, but I lost the IE icon. Your steps were the only ones that worked for me! Thanks again!!
