By default, Internet Explorer verifies if it is the default browser
each time it starts. If Internet document (HTML) files are associated
with a different browser when Internet Explorer starts, Internet
Explorer recognizes that it is not the default browser and prompts you
to make it the default browser.

Why does IE have to verify if it is the default browser each time it
starts?

In the statement about HTML files, what does it mean to say "associated
with a different browser"?

Ahhh you have finally noticed the great apocolypse! The Final Struggle for
power! The war to end all wars! The greatest battle to ever be fought! .....

Actually the reason it checks to see if it is the default browser is so that
if you like, it can come up whenever website access is needed. When it says
associated with a different browser it means that another browser like
firefox or netscape is the default browser and they are set to open whenever
website access is needed. Well good luck my friend.

It doesn't *have to*. If you don't want it to, from the IE menu choose
Tools->Internet Options->Programs Tab and uncheck the 'Internet Explorer
should check' box.

Go to Control Panel, Internet Options, and click on Programs...way at
the bottom UNCHECK "Internet Explorer should check to see whether it is
default browser" Then save that option and your problem theoretically
should be solved...
Good Luck,
JHL

Try ticking the appropriate box to say that this is the defaut browser and
your problems should be solved
