IE closes automatically when opening a new link

I have this problem with Internet Explorer and a WinXP
Home machine. It will go into web pages just fine but
when I click on a link the link pops up fine but Internet
Explorer closes. From the link I can't go back. I have
to open IE again and start over. Any help would be
appreciated.

Go to Tools | Internet Options | Advanced.
Uncheck "Reuse windows for launching shortcuts".
