IE auto shutdown

I just upgraded from IE 5.5 to 6 (required by Quickbooks
2004). NOw I am not able to open IE through the desktop
shortcuts. When I click the icon to open, the IE window
flashes on the desktop and then disappears. It is not
running in the applications. The only way I can get an IE
window is to use the Update Windows shortcut on the Start
button.

Any help would be appreciated.

Right click the Internet Explorer shortcut icon on your desktop and see what
the properties say about it. It should be iexplore.exe with the actual
target being "C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe". Start In
should be
%HOMEDRIVE%%HOMEPATH% Check it out and see what you have there.

I would also run some virus and malware scans, just in case you have
something sneaky messing around with your system.
