IE association with html files

I am having a difficult time getting IE to be associated
with my .html files. They show up with the icon usually
associated with "unknown file types", though the files
are recognized as html files in the properties window.

Is there a fix for this?

IE associates itself with my bookmarks in my favourites
panel, but not when I create .html files fo the web.

Please help.

PS: I am using IE6 + SP1
Win XP Pro
with all the updates
