IE.6sp1 hangs on closing

When I try to close any Window running IE6 the application hangs - when I force it to close via TaskManager, any/all other IE instances crash out too. The contents of the Error Message dialog is as follows
C:\DOCUME~1\DC\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERD.tmp.dir00\iexplore.exe.mdm
C:\DOCUME~1\DC\LOCALS~1\Temp\WERD.tmp.dir00\appcompat.tx
szAppName : iexplore.exe szAppVer : 6.0.2800.1106 szModName : hungap
szModVer : 0.0.0.0 offset : 00000000
I am running FULLY patched versions of XP Pro, Office Pro and IE
Can anyone help
Win XP Pro was fully reinstalled in attempt to resolve, but no joy.
I was surprised to find no option to 'Repair' either IE or XP via AddRemoveProgs - and even the CD went straight in to full install mode!? - does anyone know if these options still exist somewhere for XP

Parasite alert!

IE 6.

Try this: Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Browsing
Uncheck the Enable 3rd party browser extensions

If this clears your problem then find out who the culprit(s) is/are with
these tools.

Let AD-Aware Scan your system for advertising Spyware
http://www.lavasoftusa.com

and:

SpyBot-S&D
http://security.kolla.de/

p.s Reset the 3rd party browser setting.

More: This may be caused by a third-party program (adware, spyware,
parasite).
Get AdAware and SpyBot and run them both. Keep them up to date.
