Doug

here's a new one to me... I open up IE, type
in "www.google.com" and the browser window just refreshes
to my home page. Now if I type in "http://www.google.com"
google's website opens up. Have deleted cookies, history
and temp inet files, have also checked for a value in both
hosts and lmhosts files, have found nothing. Have tried
reinstalling IE, but again no solution. I'm about ready
to just be done with it, but thought I'd ask if anyone
here had run into that particular problem, and what (if
any) the solution would be.

Please email me at (e-mail address removed)12.wi.us if you
have information about this problem.

Thanks

Check the below Registry entries vs. yours:

Default="http://"

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\URL\Prefixes]
"ftp"="ftp://"
"gopher"="gopher://"
"home"="http://"
"mosaic"="http://"
"www"="http://"

Received ideas from Frank Saunders - I checked the
registry for the ftp, gopher, home, mosaic and www entries
to use their respective prefixes, and all was fine.
Problem still remains. Any other ideas??

Try this: Tools > Internet Options > Advanced > Browsing
Uncheck the Enable 3rd party browser extensions

If this clears your problem then find out who the culprit(s) is/are with
these tools.

Let AD-Aware Scan your system for advertising Spyware
http://www.lavasoftusa.com

and:

SpyBot-S&D

p.s Reset the 3rd party browser setting.

More: This may be caused by a third-party program (adware, spyware,
parasite).
Get AdAware and SpyBot and run them both. Keep them up to date.
