IE 6 won't browse

Hi I have been working on a standalone XP workstation that was infected by
various. At the start the PC could not ping the DSL router of even it's own
IP address. This has now been rectified.

At present I can ping websites by DNS name and get them resolved. Internet
explorer is unable to browse. It comes up with "Page cannot be displayed.
Website must be unavailable" It's not even trying.

I have given it a good shot and run out of ideas.

Any fresh ideas gratefully accepted

Many thanks

Mike
