i cannot open a certain web page with IE 6, but can open it with Opera on my
desktop. i have tried typing the address in the address bar and also click
on the link from a search engine. The strange thing is that i can open the
certain page on my laptop with IE 6. i have checked all of the internet
options for security and they are the same on both machines. Any ideas?

Hi Cone, What are you running on your laptop and desktop.
The XP versions of IE are different. Some pages won't display if there are
html errors on the page (orphaned comment tags)

Select the View>View Source menu option on your laptop with XP. If you can
see the HTML code then it has an error in it which prevents XP IE from
properly displaying the page. Inform the webmaster of the site to have the
problem corrected.

Regards.

i have the same version of IE and XP Home on both machines. When i open the
source on the page displayed on the laptop, the first line is <HTML>. I
spoke to the people with the site today and they were not aware of any
problems and could access the site on their computers. I will send an email
to the webmaster. Thanks.

I had a similar issue but it only effected certain https:/? sites. That is,
certains sites that require a secure 128 bit encryption loging. Example
ebay. I can get on ebay but could not get to the Sign In page so that I
could log in.

Is this more like the problems your having? Do you just get a "The page
cannot be displayed" type of error?

i doubt this is a secure site as it belongs to a County in Colorado. i am
waiting for a response from the webmaster. On a related note, at another
site where i tried to "view a printable e-mail bill" that gave the same "page
cannot be displayed" message, the webmaster there said they were having
trouble with recent IE 6 patches and offered a work around (that did not
work). This page could not be viewed on either machine. Will post any
significant information that comes back from either webmaster.

Perhaps more importantly is the last line </HTML> ? <eg>
Also, if that is all you see <HTML> and </HTML>
with not much in between that is probably not the web page's
real HTML source either. (IE sometimes generates blank pages
instead of error messages which look like that.)
